This brief report is an outcome of Phase one of 3-month long Participatory Action Research (PAR) carried out by the 2017 Research Fellows of the CVE Centre for Youth Dialogue – Kenya, drawing respondents from 19 of the 41 Kenyan universities to understand the difference in radicalization approaches of Al-Shabaab and ISIS that has inflicted Kenya and East African countries over the recent years. The intention was to grasp the differences and gaps so as to avoid misdiagnosis that has been prevalent over the years in response to terror activities. Additionally, it intended to understand the general public’s perception and reception of returnees; A
critique of the legal and social milieu that returnees find themselves in.
